The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division Office of Special Counsel (OSC) for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices will jointly present free E-Verify webinars on employee rights in English and Spanish languages on November 18, 2014 and November 25, 2014 respectively. All U.S. employers are required by law to verify the identity and employment eligibility of everyone they hire. The USCIS/OSC joint Employee Rights webinars offer an overview of employee rights and anti-discrimination provisions during the E-Verify and Form I-9 employment eligibility verification processes. The webinars will cover what employees need to know about E-Verify and are offered on the following dates:

E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee’s ‘Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification’ to data from DHS and Social Security Administration (SSA) records to confirm employment eligibility. According to the USCIS website, E-Verify is used nationwide by more than 500,000 employers of all sizes at more than 1.4 million hiring sites and joined by about 1,400 new participating companies every week.
