The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the expansion of myE-Verify – a free Web-based service that provides users with a secure account to use self-service features to participate in the E-Verify process – to sixteen more states. For more information about myE-Verify, please visit http://www.uscis.gov/mye-verify.
When released in October 2014, myE-Verify introduced secure personal myE-Verify accounts in five states – Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Mississippi, and Virginia – and the District of Columbia. Account holders can use the Self Lock feature to lock their social security numbers to prevent unauthorized or fraudulent use in E-Verify.
myE-Verify accounts and Self Lock are now accessible to residents in 16 additional states:
- California
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- South Carolina
- Texas
- Utah
- Washington
myE-Verify is the website from USCIS that gives U.S. workers and job-seekers resources and tools to learn about and participate in the E-Verify process. To learn more about myE-Verify, take a free webinar. myE-Verify will eventually be accessible to residents nationwide. Some myE-Verify services are available nationwide:
- Self Check – The free online service where users can securely confirm their own employment eligibility through the same databases checked by E-Verify.
- myResources – Multimedia resources about E-Verify and employment eligibility verification from the worker’s perspective that includes the E-Verify Employee Rights Toolkit and information on an employer’s responsibilities.
E-Verify is a free Web-based system that enables U.S. employers to use information entered on the ‘Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9’ of a newly hired employee to determine if that employee is eligible to work in the United States. Employers use E-Verify to verify the employment eligibility of new employees.
According to the USCIS website, E-Verify is used nationwide by more than 500,000 employers of at more than 1.4 million hiring sites and is joined by about 1,400 new participating companies every week. For more information about E-Verify, please visit http://www.uscis.gov/e-verify/.
